Starting this thread as I am going to be setting some tough challenges and exercises on the course tomorrow. I am excited to discuss how to build confidence. The critical thing is that confidence requires practice and as such we are all going to be practicing stepping out of our comfort zone this week and this is our accountability thread to keep each other honest!

Have you downloaded your worksheet? What is your Tuesday challenge going to be? Mine will be emailing a very senior CEO in the city asking her to meet up for a coffee so I can build a relationship with her and ask her to speak at STRETCH 2020! Wish me luck- I am super nervous as she is very senior and very busy!Star Struck

Hi everyone, I have downloaded the worksheet and I’m ready for the challenge! I will try to gradually be consistent with speaking up in meetings and I will start tomorrow with our weekly Tuesday team meeting. I’m hoping not to overthink too much and end up blurting something out that is unclear.

      Hi Bukola,
Thanks for your support! Really appreciate it. I managed to throw in a clarifying question during the meeting that allowed other team members to ask further questions off the question I had asked. It was actually a satisfying feeling knowing I hadn’t left the room without saying a word; it was a moment of growth for me. Thank you Bukola for igniting the fire Slight Smile<div>
</div><div>Day 2 challenge: As a Data Analyst, I’ve looked into how I might upskill within my role; I’d like to learn more about coding with python. So tomorrow I’ll begin a four-week online course on an ‘intro to programming with python’. Better now than never! Will see how it goes. </div>

Tonight’s live class was very inspiring.  Thank you so much for all you do, Bukola????

Really pleased with you all. Aisha, Pearle and Kerla are really bringing the fire. What about the rest of you early career kickstart crew? Remember that confidence is a muscle… We need to practice, practice and practice some more.

My day 2 action. I am not a sales person at all. I find it difficult to pitch and ask for money so tomorrow I am going to send a proposal for STRETCH to someone who asked for it some weeks ago. I have been putting it off, partly because I have been busy and partly because it doesn’t come naturally to me. So again wish me luck and I will report back tomorrow evening!

Hi Everyone, as day 3 task. I signed up with toastmasters!

Tomorrow is my first day at work, I’m going to try and speak up at the morning meeting…something I never do unless a question is thrown my way????

I’ll let you know how that goes!

Aisha is on fireeeeee! Very well done. Toastmasters will help you so much. Ok tomorrow is huge and my top tip is don’t overthink it. Think of something to contribute in the morning meeting and just say it. It will feel weird at first but you will get used to it. Rooting for you and make sure you come back to let us know how it went!

Thank you so much for this tip Bukola, it did feel weird indeed, because the room went silent when I spoke up to say I had a suggestion, ???? we were(or my colleagues were) deliberating on the best process for a job.

I knew what I wanted to say and said as confidently as I could, remembering some of the tips from the webinar, on confident habits.

My suggestion was taken. I was surprised (but concealed my expression…lool) and happy! ????????

You guys have been so good with your updates, very encouraging, well done!.

Just an update on my progress   this week .

Chair: I’ve volunteered to chair our next regional mentorship circle on the 13th of November with one of the senior leaders

Activity : currently deputising for our local LD the next 2 weeks , so I have ensured  I’m more vocal on all leadership / stakeholder calls and not just sit back

Book: finally finished listening to the

“ confidence Code “ by katty Kay and Claire Shipman via Audible. Previously recommended by Bukola thank you!

Connect: connected with another business area within the business and spent a shadow day and made more connections , which lead to an invite to client event yesterday at coutts. This was completely out my comfort zone networking with industry experts. But like Bukola said “ feel the fear and do it anyway “ held on to that motto

Areas I am still working on:

-Identify with a leader for mentorship

-Sign up to Toastmaster ( intend to do that by Sunday )

and finally to do something spontaneous.. I’ve delegated the holiday booking to hubby , we all have to play our part ????

This week, I volunteered to join our team’s process improvement team. This is something I would never normally do as I tend to hide in the workplace. I was also in a position where I had to go head to head with a director from another business area to ensure that my organisation complied with the terms of a Court Order. Being very introverted, I would normally give in when challenged by someone so senior. Using some of the confidence skills I learnt this week, I politely but firmly made a submission challenging the director’s stance on a matter and his manager agreed with me. As a result, my director was notified of the situation and commended me. Thank you Bukola.

Yaaay! Well done Tobi. I’m so so proud. You see it works if you work it. Feel the fear and do it anyway. I’m so glad you used your voice. Don’t let it be a one-off. Keep practising and in no time it will come naturally to you!

    Hello All,

Here is a summary of my actions this week:

Tuesday – Applied for a job at UCL

Wednesday – Spoke to someone called Sarah who was a connection that was made for me following on from the CV clinic at Stretch.  Sarah gave me some really good feedback on how to further enhance my CV.

Thursday – I sat on the Staff Retention Committee at work.  I spoke up and has now been given an action to plan an open house event for prospective teachers – February 2020.  I also presented a document I as working on around the employee life cycle.

Friday – reached out to Rene Carayol and took him up on the offer to meet for a coffee.  Meeting him in January 2020. What do I want to speak to him about?  I’ve got 2 months to plan.

Saturday – had a follow chat with my mentor

Sunday – Preparing for my performance management conversation tomorrow.

It has been a busy week.
